Expeditionary Learning

Expeditionary Learning (EL) is a framework for planning what and how your child will be learning this year. It helps teachers to design curriculum and plan how to instruct students. EL is a proven model of learning for elementary, middle, and high school students. EL emphasizes learning by doing through projects and fieldwork in the real world. EL focuses on:

Character Growth

Teamwork (working cooperatively)

Reflection (quiet thinking time)

Literacy (reading and writing)

Teachers connect high quality academic learning to adventure, service, and character development through a variety of project-based learning expeditions. Everything teachers and students will do in Learning Expeditions rests on our design principles.

Core Practices of Expeditionary Learning

The five Core Practices of Expeditionary Learning provide detail on creating a center of powerful teaching, rigorous academic achievement, and character development for all students. The core practices build on one another to support high expectations and high achievement in every domain. They enable schools to place learning expeditions, student work, and teacher practice at the center of teaching and learning.
